ASABA—DELTA State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, has taken  over the prosecution of the case of alleged theft and willful destruction of property preferred against one Jemiriegbe Jonathan and four other officials of the state wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, by the state Commissioner of Police

A Principal State Counsel from the State Ministry of Justice, Mr. Emmanuel Brisibe Tambou, disclosed this when he announced appearance for the prosecution when the case came up for hearing at the Magistrates Court, Okpanam. Tambou told the court that the need to take over the case from the police was occasioned by a new development. The Principal State Counsel tendered a copy of a letter from the Department of Public Prosecution, DPP, giving effect to the takeover of the case from the police. The Counsel for the accused persons,  I.M. Nwabuoku, who appeared with two other lawyers however, disagreed with the procedure for the takeover, contended that the Attorney-General’s decision to take over the case was not wrong, but  that a proper procedure ought to be followed.
